This project follows a life cycle approach, thus starting from conception, following through pregnancy and birth, infancy, childhood, school age, adolescence and youth, adulthood and then old age. There is a special emphasis on maternal and neonatal health.
Interventions are designed so as not to provide direct services; rather collaborating with existing health facilities and local health care providers thus ensuring a comprehensive and sustainable approach.
All this is done to bring a positive change in survival and quality of life of all members of the community. The life cycle does not complete until and unless all stages of human development from conception to death are taken into account. Health and physical development are not the only factors in determining the quality of life of the community; poverty alleviation and psychological well being are also important. Poverty alleviation, physical health and mental health are all inter-related aspects of human life and none can be ignored.
Contech through the project has been involved in improving maternal and newborn health in U/C Matta for last 1 year and has developed good reputation in the area.
The project staff has initially conducted training sessions of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs/Dais) and of Lady Health Workers working in the area. Contech has paid special emphasis on involvement of local community especially the opinion leaders so as to inculcate a sense of ownership among them. We intend to act as a catalyst in initiating and facilitating a community effort for improving quality of life.
