Dr. Shehzad Hussain Awan is an experienced public health physician with a vast understanding of working in various public health assignments both in the public and private sectors. He obtained a Medical Degree in 1985 from the Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan, and a Master's in Health Administration (MHA) from the University of the Punjab Lahore in 2015. Also completed coursework for a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) in 2003 from the Institute of Public Health, Lahore, and obtained Diploma in Public Health (DPH) from Pakistan Institute of Management Sciences (PIMS) in 2010. Acquired various professional and management training, and served at almost all levels in the public sector including primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare facilities, as well as in donor-funded projects.   

Has over thirty-four years of work experience, with extensive involvement in senior leadership and project management positions, involved in donor coordination, health systems strengthening, governance and accountability, reproductive health, population sector, management information systems, communicable and non-communicable diseases, health education, procurement of goods/services and equipment. 

Major areas of interest include the Design, implementation, and quality assurance of health programs such as prevention and control of infectious diseases (Hepatitis, HIV and AIDS, TB, COVID-19); reproductive health including family planning, maternal and child health; nutrition, health education, communication, and advocacy; health systems strengthening including institutional development of various health reforms, restructuring of the health department, human resource development strategies, health information system, health planning, output based budgeting, up-gradation of health facilities through refurbishment/civil works and equipment, research and health facility assessments, hospital waste management, Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System (IDSR), and operationalization of Mobile Health Units (MHUs). Holds rich experience in project implementation, supply management, and monitoring and evaluation.
